Stained Glass Original Design
Stained glass original designs in artistic decorative windows come in an amazing variety of glass. In addition to glass and jewels, leading is an important characteristic. Cames are I-shaped strips of metal which hold decorative windows together. Lead cames are the most common type of caming, but zinc and copper are also used.
Tiffany and La Farge both produced fabulous stained glass art. As they manipulated colored opaline glass, they created confetti and fractured glass as well as many other exotic varieties of glass. Although there were many other creative forces in glass art at the time, Tiffany's creations eventually reached the highest popularity in American glass art.
The Arts and Crafts movement, originated by William Morris in England, followed on the heels of Tiffany and Art Nouveau in America. The basic style of the Arts & Crafts movement was adopted here with design modifications by American artists. The American arts and crafts movement is identified with the early 20th century Mission style. Such names as Stickley, Hubbard and Bradley all featured colored glass art in their total decorative concepts. The popularity of the arts & crafts movement contributed significantly to American residential stained glass art.
